María Azucena Valdivia Martínez, 50 years old, and her daughter Emilia Pichardo Martínez, died in a traffic accident that occurred on the night of Thursday, March 13.
Mother and daughter were run over by a truck in front of the Gracsa colony, located on the Chichigalpa-Chinandega highway, at kilometer 129.
According to reports from local media, the accident occurred after a van collided with the truck from behind, causing the truck to veer off its path and run over the women and four other people walking on the sidewalk.
The tractor unit, license plate CH 45928, was driven by Benito Ángel Cortedano Sandoval. The heavy vehicle was left crashed between the walls that divide the lanes of the road.
The truck, license plates CH 00035, was driven by Orlando José Altamirano Armas, 53 years old, who was injured and was taken to the hospital.
The other injured individuals have been identified as José Julián Quintero, 23 years old; his mother Ademelia Quintero; and Luis Alberto Rojas Martínez, 38.
They were all transferred to the Mauricio Abdalah Departmental Hospital in Chinandega.
Traffic Police and Fire Department agents were present at the scene to assist the injured and create a sketch of the accident.
