After more than 72 hours of searching, the remains of a missing tourist have been found on Chac Mool Beach; authorities are investigating the cause of death.
Cancún.—After three days of disappearance, municipal and state authorities reported that on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 23, the lifeless body of the young tourist who disappeared last Sunday was found after entering the sea to try to rescue his partner, who had been swept away by the current on the same beach.
The woman, along with witnesses, reported that the man could not be rescued after being swept away by the force of the waves.
A statement announced that at approximately 4:00 p.m., Civil Protection personnel found the man's remains in a pool of sargassum 50 meters from the shore of Chac Mool Beach, the same sandy area where he was last seen, after more than 72 hours of unsuccessful searching.
Tourist Police officers arrived at the scene to delimit the area, and later personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) arrived and recovered the remains.
Although the exact cause of death is still unknown, the body was found with various wounds and mutilations, missing some limbs, and showing signs of decomposition.
In recent hours, images of the lifeguards' efforts to remove the body have been released.
