Two men on a motorbike were crushed to death by speeding operatives of the Environmental Transformation Commission in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Already, the incident which happened along Akachi road, close to Wethedral Road on Monday afternoon, has elicited outrage over the alleged excesses of ENTRACO operatives.
Eyewitnesses said the bike man and his passenger were en route to Alaba spare parts market when ENTRACO operatives, who were travelling at top speed, rammed into them, which caused their deaths instantly.
A source, Chidiebube Okeoma, said, “They were on a bike heading to Alaba market when the government officials working as taskforce agents rammed into them and they died on the spot. The state government must stop these guys from committing further mayhem in this state. They have done enough.”
A video of the victims our correspondent monitored on Monday showed one of the victims with his two legs totally crushed, with one foot hanging within the wheels of the bike, while the other had his head shattered. Both lay in the pool of their own blood.
Already, a spokesperson for a former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Dr Walter Duru, has called for the total ban of ENTRACO activities to safeguard the people.
