A horrific morning unfolded this Saturday in the heart of Lomas de Zamora. A couple died instantly after being struck by a Roca Line train near the Boedo Street crossing. The victims' bodies were trapped between the train, which was traveling towards Alejandro Korn, and the platform structure, causing profound shock among passengers and station workers.
Within hours of the accident, investigators began working on three distinctly different hypotheses, as witness accounts contradicted initial police reports. The case remains open and is currently under rigorous forensic examination.
Accident, suicide, or argument?
Initially, an official source connected to the case told local media that the leading suspicion was that the victims had "thrown themselves" onto the tracks with the intention of taking their own lives. However, eyewitnesses on the platform presented a completely different scenario: a fatal act of recklessness.
“Two people tried to cross the tracks because the train was coming, but they couldn't get onto the platform. The train was honking its horn, and no one could help them,” a neighbor who witnessed the impact described in stark detail. According to his account, the couple was trapped in the narrow space between the train and the edge of the structure: “Hearing that loud crash and seeing them cornered was insane. They were both locked in a hug, trapped in barely 15 centimeters.”
Meanwhile, a third version gained traction as the hours passed, based on testimonies gathered from street vendors who work at the station. According to these accounts, the young couple had been having a heated argument at the edge of the tracks moments before the train arrived. “Apparently, the girl jumped down, and her boyfriend tried to grab her, and they both ended up under the train,” another source who worked at the scene indicated.
Scenes of horror on the platform
Passengers who had to evacuate the area agreed on the psychological impact of the scene. “I had to cross to the other platform to catch the train to Burzaco and I saw the bodies underneath. They were hugging each other from the torso up. It was very shocking,” a train user explained.
The same eyewitness also lamented the actions of some onlookers: “People on the opposite platform were screaming in desperation, but then many others approached out of pure morbid curiosity; they just wanted to take pictures with their phones.”
Due to the tragic incident, and while awaiting the arrival of forensic experts to recover the bodies and collect evidence, service on the various branches of the Roca Line experienced significant delays and cancellations for much of Saturday
