Two men died after being trapped in-between slabs of granite in a marble workshop in Irajá, in Rio's north zone.
According to the Civil Police, 41-year-old B.S. was the owner of a marble shop in Madureira and was with one of his employees, 36-year-old R.T., on a visit to a warehouse in Irajá to negotiate the purchase of slabs with the owner of the place. The granite pieces detached from the trestle that held them while they were being handled by the two men. It was necessary to use heavy machinery to rescue the bodies.
The owner of the warehouse is now being investigated over whether he is responsible for negligent manslaughter, and whether he had adequate security for handling the slabs
