Texas Man Tased By Police At Gym After Alleged Assault Of Another Gym Member
A Texas man was tased by a police officer at an Amarillo gym, one day after he allegedly assaulted another member, video obtained by WFAA showed.
Local artist Jrew Retro, who is also a member at the gym, told WFAA the incident happened on May 11 and caught the interaction on cell phone video. Jrew Retro told WFAA the man who was tased in the video had assaulted another gym member the day before and was told not to come back. When the man came back the next day on Saturday, May 11, the cops were called and he started recording, he told WFAA.
Amarillo police told WFAA that officers were called to Crunch Fitness about a disturbance. Officers were told a member had punched another member on Friday and was told he could not return and his membership was revoked, police said. The man, identified by police as 40-year-old David Jones returned, was told by staff to leave, refused and began working out. Amarillo PD said "when the officer made contact with [Jones] he again refused to leave and tried to use weights to push the officer."
According to police, the officer was able to take the weights away from Jones and he then took a fighting stance with the officer and again refused to leave. The officer deployed his taser and, with the assistance of other gym members, Jones was detained and arrested.
In the video, the police officer seems to be communicating with the man, who the raises a fist in a fighting stance and gestures towards the officer. The officer then pulls out his taser and stuns the man, who falls to the ground
