Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in West Garfield Park as 16-year-old David Mason Jr., also known by friends and family as “Lil Dave.”
The shooting occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., when Chicago Police officers responded to reports of a person shot near the intersection of West End Avenue and Keeler Avenue.
Upon arrival, responding officers learned that the victim had already been transported from the scene by a private vehicle.
A short time later, Mount Sinai Hospital notified police that a teenage male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds had been dropped off at the emergency department.
The victim was identified as David Mason Jr., 16. According to medical personnel, Mason sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and arms and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Preliminary information from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) indicates that Mason was standing on or near a sidewalk when he was struck by gunfire from an unknown assailant. Investigators have not yet determined whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.
As of now, no suspects are in custody, and police have not released details regarding a possible motive. Area Four detectives are leading the homicide investigation
