In the Rímac district, on the 200 block of Morro de Arica Avenue, helmeted individuals arrived on a motorcycle at a parking facility, attempting to rob the on-site offices; however, they did not expect the security guard to draw a firearm.
The guard fired several shots at the criminals—about ten gunshots were heard. While the motorcycle driver fled immediately, the suspect who had been walking toward the office ran in a panic, stumbling several times, as seen on security camera footage.
The suspect struggled to escape while the guard continued firing. Once outside the facility, his accomplice was waiting on the motorcycle, and they managed to flee; however, the criminal appeared to be wounded, as he had difficulty mounting the bike. During the attack, an alarm could also be heard—apparently triggered by the security guard himself—to scare off the perpetrators.
It appears these criminals intended to extort the parking facility owners or someone inside the establishment, though these theories remain under police investigation. It is not yet known if the facility was already paying extortion fees or if it had received threats from a criminal organization.
The National Police are currently conducting a major operation targeting nine properties linked to the criminal gang "Los Injertos del Rímac Nueva Generación" (The New Generation Rímac Hybrids), a group known for extorting transport operators and parking facility businesses.
It is worth noting that the attacked parking facility is currently serving only regular subscribers in an effort to bolster security and prevent future attacks by criminals
