23 Year Old Man Shot Dead Over Political Dispute

A 23-year-old man died after being shot during a fight over political differences in the early hours of Friday (4), in the city of Prado, in the extreme south of Bahia. According to the Military Police, two other young men who participated in the altercation were hit in the exchange of gunfire and are hospitalized.


According to the Military Police, the incident occurred around 1:30 am, on Avenida José Có, in the district of Guarani. The young man who died was identified as Giliard Lima dos Santos.


Witnesses told the police that Giliard and his brother arrived in a white car and approached another young man in front of a political committee. The three argued because the pair supported a different candidate than the young man.


Giliard went to the car and grabbed a gun. The young man who was already there was also armed and the two exchanged gunfire.


A security camera captured the moment Giliard and his brother arrived at the scene, the fight between them and the young man and the rush of the people who were at the committee.


According to the police, the three men were shot during the confusion. Shot in the chest, Giliard was rescued and taken to the Itamaraju Hospital, but arrived dead. His brother was shot in the ribs. He remains hospitalized in stable condition. The young man who was approached by the pair was shot in the chest and back. He is hospitalized in serious condition. The case is being investigated by the city's Civil Police.
