The incident happened Wednesday night (the 30th), and according to the police report, the fight apparently started after one of the men complained that the other had his feet resting against the wall of a nearby business.
The victims were identified as 43-year-old Cléber Lima Gonçalves and 19-year-old Gustavo de Souza Costa. According to witnesses who spoke with police, Gustavo was standing outside the liquor store when Cléber, who was reportedly the owner of the place, told him to take his feet off the wall.
Security camera footage from the store captured the whole confrontation. In the video, Cléber can be seen arriving at the bar carrying a gun. He then shoots at Gustavo, who was also armed and fired back.
During the shooting, customers ran out of the bar, including a woman carrying a child in her arms. Cléber died at the scene. Gustavo was taken to Santa Casa Hospital, but he also died from his injuries.
According to the police report, the shooting was triggered by an argument over something that was considered “apparently trivial.” Investigators suspect that Cléber owned a clothing store across from the liquor store and that Gustavo may have been causing some kind of disturbance near his business.
After the shots were fired, emergency crews and the Military Police were called to the scene. Civil Police and forensic experts also responded. The case was registered as a homicide and remains under investigation.
