Mentally Ill Neighbor Of Two Women Severely Injures Them With A Machete. Aftermath

A mother and her daughter were attacked with a machete while they were sleeping in their home in the María Teresa compound, in Colimes, Guayas province. It happened in the early hours of Tuesday, August 20, and shortly afterward they were taken by neighbors in the back of a pickup truck to a health center with serious injuries.

The 44-year-old woman and the 18-year-old girl were taken to a hospital in Guayaquil during the morning to be treated.

The mother had suffered the amputation of her left hand and could also lose her right hand, according to medical reports.

Both women are in critical condition and their relatives are asking for justice, as they explain that it was a neighbor who lives about 30 meters from the victims who entered the property and tried to kill them.

He would have used a ladder and entered through a space between the wall and the ceiling, according to the complainants.

"He wanted to kill them, I don't know why he wanted to do this. "I don't know what he was thinking," said the husband and father of the wounded, who is desperate and asks for a miracle for both of them, through tears.

The relatives of the attacker, who was arrested by the police and sent to the penitentiary, also traveled to Guayaquil.

They indicated that the man had mental problems.

"He is a quiet boy, he doesn't mess with anyone, he doesn't smoke and he doesn't drink," said the father of the detainee.
