A strong explosion was reported by the community and the Metropolitan Police of Cali in the Jamundí area.
The event occurred after 8:30 in the morning of December 7 in the urban area, in the sector of Las Piñas and Quintas de Bolívar. It is an area of the urban area, on the road that leads to the Potrerito district of the same Jamundí.
The Police confirmed that it was a motorcycle bomb and that the explosion left seven people injured, six police officers and one civilian. According to the Public Force, one person died and was allegedly a FARC dissident who was carrying the motorcycle bomb.
The explosion occurred near the Police checkpoint in Las Piñas. The authorities are investigating whether the alleged dissident, whose body was fragmented, was going to leave the motorcycle bomb in this area or if he was heading to another point in Jamundí.
However, the mayor of Jamundí had indicated in a previous report only six injured. At 9:11 a.m. on December 7, the administration reported: "In the last few hours, an explosion was recorded in the Las Piñas sector of Jamundí. According to preliminary reports, six people were injured and were immediately transferred to the Piloto Hospital in Jamundí, where they are receiving medical attention. Local authorities are already at the scene investigating the causes of the explosion and assessing the damage."
