Two men, one Dominican and the other Haitian, died after a violent fight early Sunday morning in the Barrio Nuevo sector of the Verón-Punta Cana municipal district, La Altagracia province.
According to the preliminary report from the Scientific Police, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when the two men confronted each other with knives in an alley in the community.
The victims were identified as Braulio Gómez Araujo, a 29-year-old Dominican, and Julio Fleristin, a 24-year-old Haitian citizen. Both resided in the same sector and, according to witnesses, had a personal conflict related to a woman, which escalated into the fatal confrontation.
The report indicates that Gómez Araujo, a laborer, allegedly attacked Fleristin with a knife, inflicting a stab wound to the neck that caused his immediate death. However, during the struggle, the Dominican man was also seriously injured with multiple stab wounds.
Both bodies were taken to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in San Pedro de Macorís for further examination, while the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM) of the National Police continues its investigation to locate the fugitives.
