In a shocking act of desperation, a mother in Higüey, La Altagracia province, brought the remains of her daughter to the local court, demanding justice for her death. Between screams and cries, the woman expressed her frustration at the lack of response from the authorities, saying that she feels abandoned in her fight.
“My daughter has been raped and murdered for ten months and this prosecutor's office has not given me an answer... you think it was easy for me to take my daughter's body and bring it here,” exclaimed Mrs. Mildred Correa.
With a black bag containing her daughter's remains, the woman entered the court and, in front of those present, showed a sheet with the bones of the deceased young woman.
The mother said that she dug up her daughter with the aim of drawing the attention of the authorities and society.
“I am a helpless mother and they are not giving me an answer, they are just making me dizzy. Do you think it doesn't hurt me to have dug up my daughter and brought her here?”
According to her testimony, her daughter lost her life while she was accompanied by a group of people, but investigations have not managed to identify those responsible.
“Everyone has turned their back on me, everyone here in Higüey,” she said between sobs, describing the helplessness she feels as a mother in the face of the lack of progress in the case.
This act reflects her desperation to find justice, something she considers essential to alleviate the pain and uncertainty that has accompanied her since the loss of her daughter.
