A suspected petty thief was seriously injured after suffering an electric shock and falling from a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) utility pole while trying to evade municipal police officers.
The Juárez Police Department reported that the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon after residents of the Villas de San José neighborhood reported a man walking and jumping across the rooftops of several houses, causing alarm among the residents.
The incident took place at the intersection of Paseo San Juan Avenue and Gardenia Street, where, upon noticing the police presence, the man climbed a CFE pole and tried to grab onto a transformer. He made contact with high-voltage wires and received a powerful electric shock.
After the impact, the man fell onto a patrol car, damaging the windshield and hood.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to the General Hospital of Juárez.
Medical personnel reported that the victim was identified as 21-year-old Erick Ramírez, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The young man suffered second- and third-degree burns over approximately 31 percent of his body, and his condition was reported as critical.
