France’s capital is descending into chaos, with massive clashes between protesters and police. School students, who have been protesting for a month now, have been joined by trade unions, university students, farmers, and the Yellow Vests. Authorities were expecting up to 150,000 protesters outside Paris alone.
More than 10,000 police officers and gendarmes have been deployed across Paris, but it’s not helping — the city is going up in flames.
Here’s what’s happening right now:
🔴 Rennes — Barricades are burning on the ring road, and protesters are throwing rocks at police.
🔴 Lyon — Riot police are trying to clear crowds from the banks of the Rhône, but protesters refuse to leave.
🔴 Paris — Around 100 masked protesters trashed the CNews offices, smashing windows and blocking the parking lot. 21 people have been arrested.
🔴 Clermont-Ferrand — A massive fire tornado made of flames and smoke suddenly formed in the middle of the protests.
🔴 Marseille, Caen, and other cities — Reports of attempted looting have been confirmed. In Paris, police found knives and face coverings on two suspects before the march even started.
➖ The reported aftermath is already brutal: 937 police officers and gendarmes injured, along with 248 students and 149 education workers. A 15-year-old schoolboy reportedly lost an eye after being hit by a rubber bullet.
