A criminal died Tuesday after an attempted robbery that escalated into an armed confrontation with a retired member of the Argentine Federal Police in Gerli, Avellaneda. His accomplice escaped on a motorcycle and is being actively sought.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when the former officer arrived at his home and was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle. He stated that the two men threatened him, demanding money, and a struggle ensued.
During the altercation, the man managed to draw his service weapon, which he was carrying in a bag, and fired shots that struck one of the assailants, who fell to the street and died at the scene.
When police arrived, they found the suspect deceased on the asphalt. A metal replica of a 9mm pistol was recovered near his body.
The second suspect fled on the motorcycle toward Lanús and remains at large.
The investigation is being handled by the Functional Unit of Instruction No. 1 of Avellaneda, which ordered the scene to be preserved, forensic experts to be called in, and the corresponding legal proceedings to clarify the incident.
