Firefighters transfer two PNC agents to the National Hospital of Chimaltenango, one of them has a reserved clinical picture.
The spokesman for the Municipal Departmental Firefighters, Mario Upun, reported that in San Lorenzo, San Andrés Itzapa, Chimaltenango, a person under the influence of alcohol fired into the air and the neighbors called the National Civil Police (PNC) to arrest him, however they were received with gunshots.
Inspector Edwin Monroy, spokesman for the PNC, explained that the police officers were in a patrol car to verify the address where a person was causing a disturbance in the public road.
Monroy detailed that one of the police officers was wounded on the left side of the skull and another on the right side of the thorax.
Given the injuries considered, Monroy affirmed that the clinical picture of one of them is reserved.
In addition, the Police vehicle was damaged with several perforations from firearm projectiles. Also one of the windows was broken by the shots.
The PNC is keeping buildings surrounded in the perimeter where the person responsible for the attack is.
Upun announced that apparently the aggressor is also injured by the exchange of gunfire.
Rescuers are waiting for the PNC to enter the house where the subject is sheltered to provide him with pre-hospital care.
Local media stated that the subject was on the second floor of a building.
One of the injured police officers was identified as Elmer López García, 50 years old.
He surrenders
After several hours of tension, the subject who allegedly shot two agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) in San Andrés Itzapa, Chimaltenango, surrendered to the security forces.
“Through a process of dialogue using persuasion protocols, the alleged person responsible for the armed attack against PNC agents in San Andrés Itzapa, Chimaltenango, has already been captured,” the PNC confirmed on its X account.
The man identified as Francisco “N”, 43 years old, was taken to a hospital under police custody.
