A man stabbed his own father to death and cut off the victim's head on Tuesday morning (19) in Natal. The incident occurred around 11 am in a square in the Potilândia neighborhood, in the southern part of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte.

According to the Military Police, teams were called by local residents and came across the suspect fleeing near the campus of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The man was carrying his father's head in a backpack.

The suspect allegedly resisted arrest and threw fireworks at the police, who retaliated and shot him in the leg. He was detained and then taken to the Emergency Care Unit in Cidade da Esperança, in the western part of the city.

According to the police, in addition to the head in the backpack, the man was carrying a gallon of gasoline and other weapons, such as the knife used in the crime.

After the arrest, the bag was taken to the victim's body, in Bauxita Square, which is near the BR-101 highway. The Technical-Scientific Institute of Forensics and the Civil Police were called to the scene to conduct an expert analysis and begin the investigation.

"According to information from the neighborhood, there were several disagreements between them, including the individual having tried to kill his father on other occasions and today this fatality occurred", stated the aspiring Thais, from the 5th Battalion of the Military Police.

According to the Military Police, after receiving medical attention, the man will be taken to a police station.

Family was afraid

The victim's niece, lawyer Vanessa Lima de Souza, claims that the suspect already had a history of violence and drug use, and the entire family was afraid of him. Among the criminal acts, the man had already set fire to her father's upholstery workshop.

"He was already homeless. He had been missing for a while, so much so that he was even listed on a list of missing persons by the Civil Police, and then he would return to Nova Descoberta, Potilândia. When people saw him, they let us know," he said.

"Everyone was afraid, everyone was worried. My father had to move from a normal home, one of those on the streets, to a condominium to feel safe," he added.
