A horrific tragedy has shaken the province of Camagüey, specifically the municipality of Guáimaro, where Deisi Peña Jiménez and her mother were victims of a brutal machete attack allegedly perpetrated by Deisi's ex-partner.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred during a nighttime power outage. As reported by Nio Reportando Un Crimen on their Facebook page, the assailant broke into the house located on Flores Street, between Iris and Unión Streets, and savagely attacked both women. Neighbors alerted the authorities after hearing the screams and managed to apprehend the attacker, who was then handed over to the police.
The victims were transferred to the province of Las Tunas, where they remain in critical condition. Deisi Peña Jiménez has suffered several cardiac arrests as a result of blood loss and trauma; doctors have managed to stabilize her temporarily, but her condition remains extremely delicate.
Her children, one 21 years old and the other a minor, witnessed the entire scene; neither is the attacker's child. Both are receiving care and psychological support following the traumatic experience.
