The crime was linked to footage posted on social media.
The dramatic events unfolded overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Kadłub, a town in the Opole Voivodeship. After analyzing surveillance footage, police were able to determine the location and arrested the 17-year-old suspected of the double murder.
How did the arrest unfold?
The police launched an operation immediately after the discovery of two bodies in a single-family home. Surveillance cameras at the Krapkowice train station were helpful. "The officers identified the suspect thanks to the analysis of surveillance footage," said Prosecutor Stanisław Bar, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Opole. The arrest went smoothly; the 17-year-old suspect offered no resistance.
What were the suspect's motivations?
Videos posted online indicate that the 17-year-old may have planned his actions. Officers from the Cybercrime Department discovered the recording. The prosecutor emphasized that the recording was linked to an IP address.
The victims were two people – the detainee's stepfather and grandmother. They were killed by blows from a tool resembling an axe.
"He rarely left his room"
Onet reached a resident of Strzelce Opolskie who recently started working at a workshop owned by the 17-year-old's stepfather. "He was a very good man. I feel very bad about it because I was just talking to him yesterday, and this morning, when I arrived at work, the police chased me out of the workshop, which is located next door," the young man said.
He also spoke about the detained 17-year-old. "I didn't know Łukasz very well. He rarely left his room. He mostly sat at his computer," the employee said.
The suspect faces the harshest possible punishment. He could spend the rest of his life in prison
