A man decapitated his uncle with a machete during an incident in the Cuero Duro sector of the San Víctor municipal district, in Espaillat province.
The victim was identified as Ramón Arístides López Núñez, 67, a resident of the same community.
According to preliminary data from authorities, his body also sustained multiple sharp force injuries and blunt force trauma.
The alleged perpetrator is his nephew, identified as Juan Alberto Díaz López, alias "Chicho," who was arrested by National Police officers shortly after the incident.
According to reports from the community, the crime occurred during an argument over an alleged dispute regarding land or inherited property.
Witness statements indicate that, after striking his uncle multiple times with a machete, the assailant moved the body to his home, where he allegedly continued to assault him with a stick.
The incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, has shocked residents of Cuero Duro, who remain in disbelief.
According to the preliminary report from the National Police, the incident took place in the Cuero Duro sector, where the victim suffered fatal injuries inflicted with a bladed weapon.
In a press release, the agency indicated that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by authorities.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the corresponding legal proceedings as the investigation continues
