The woman, Anju, a resident of Thalavadi, lives with her two children after separating from her husband. According to the police, the accused, Nagendran, 32, a resident of the same locality, had allegedly been repeatedly insisting that Anju accept his proposal. She had refused, leading to frequent arguments between them.
On Sunday afternoon, when Anju was at the fancy store where she worked, Nagendran allegedly entered the shop and picked an argument with her. When she refused his advances, he allegedly took out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly. Anju raised an alarm, following which people nearby rushed to the shop and pulled Nagendran away. He allegedly pushed them aside and fled the spot. Anju was taken to the Thalavadi Government Upgraded Primary Health Centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, Nagendran, fearing police action, allegedly attempted to die by suicide at his house. His family members took him to a government hospital in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, where he is undergoing treatment. The incident was captured on the shop's CCTV camera. The footage of the attack has since been circulated on social media. The Thalavadi police are investigating the incident.
