Man Arrested For Suspected Fatal Stabbing Of Woman

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman to death with a knife at the Sibu Jaya Commercial Center on Friday (Feb 23).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the 28-year-old suspect was detained at 9.20pm Friday night for further investigation.

He added that the police had also seized a knife from the suspect as a case item.

ACP Zulkifli said the 24-year-old victim was found lying covered with blood on the pavement of a shop by a member of the public at about 3pm.

"The victim, who worked as a shop assistant, was in a semi-conscious state at the time while holding the severely injured part of her stomach believed to have been stabbed with a sharp object.

"The witness then called an ambulance and soon after the victim was rushed to the hospital for further treatment," he said.

However, ACP Zulkipli said, the police were informed by the victim's husband that the victim had died while receiving treatment at the Sibu hospital at 11.30pm.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"The police are still conducting a detailed investigation into the incident while the motive of the case has not yet been determined," he explained.

ACP Zulkipli also advised the public not to speculate on the case as it could interfere with the police investigation
