A young man, battling emotional distress after his wife and young daughter left home, died by suicide while streaming the act live on Facebook in Pune on Thursday evening. Keshari Prasad Sahu climbed atop a water tank in a crowded vegetable market, where he broke down on camera and repeatedly expressed his longing to reunite with his family before jumping to his death. Police recovered a three-page suicide note, in which he wrote of his deep love for his daughter, pleaded for a conversation with his wife, and also alleged that certain individuals were responsible for separating them.
The man, Keshari Prasad Sahu, posted two videos in which he can be seen standing atop a water tank in a market area, sobbing uncontrollably and expressing his deep affection for his wife and daughter moments before jumping to his death on Thursday evening.
According to available information, Sahu’s wife and daughter had left home a few months ago. Since then, he had been living alone and was reportedly unable to cope with the pain of separation.
Police said Sahu climbed onto a water tank located on the second floor of the vegetable market in Pune's Bhosari on Thursday afternoon. He later jumped from the tank, resulting in his death. Police suspect that he may have consumed alcohol before taking the extreme step.
Before jumping, Sahu went live on Facebook for about one minute and six seconds. In the video, he is seen crying and repeatedly saying, “I want to meet my wife, I want to live my life.”
In another video recorded around six hours earlier, he is heard saying: “What are you thinking? What will I do. I don’t even know myself. But I will do something today, something that I don’t even know yet. Don’t take this as a joke. I’m in a very bad mood today. I will do something that no one has ever done before.”
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Bhosari police, fire brigade and an ambulance rushed to the spot. For nearly half an hour, police personnel and firefighters tried to persuade him to come down safely. However, he was not in a state to listen.
A video recorded by an onlooker showed Sahu standing atop the tank as a large crowd gathered at the scene. Some people attempted to climb up to rescue him, but stopped out of fear that he might jump. Several bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile phones. Eventually, Sahu jumped from the water tank.
Police also recovered a four-page suicide note written by Sahu, which he had posted on his social media account. In the note, he repeatedly expressed his deep love for his daughter, writing several times, “I love my daughter very much.”
“I want to live with my wife and child. If my wife stays, it’s fine; otherwise, I will live for my child. I can’t bear this anymore. I miss you, Rani Divyanshi. Please talk to me once. Stay wherever you find happiness. I just want to know where you are and if you are alright,” the suicide note stated.
Sahu also wrote that he took the step because he could not bear the pain of separation from his wife and daughter. He expressed a wish that his last rites be performed by his daughter.
In the note, he made serious allegations against certain individuals, writing, “I am writing this suicide note in my full sense. Some people are involved in taking my wife away. They know where my wife is. These people are responsible for my death. I want justice.”
He further accused the police of not examining CCTV footage and reiterated, “I want to live my life with my wife and daughter. I can’t bear this pain anymore.”
Police said they are examining all aspects of the case based on the suicide note and the Facebook Live videos, after the man jumped from a water tank in Pune. He had posted emotional videos expressing distress over his separation from his wife and daughter
