One of the victims shot during a staged robbery in front of a car dealership in the East Zone of São Paulo died late Monday afternoon (13). The information was confirmed by the SSP (Public Security Secretariat). The man's identity has not yet been released.
The incident occurred on Monday at 12 pm in the Água Rasa neighborhood. Two men arrived at the location on a motorcycle and staged a robbery as a joke with dealership employees, who were their friends.
A plainclothes civil police officer who was at the establishment witnessed the scene, believed it was a robbery, and shot the pair.
The two men were rescued and taken to the Vila Alpina State Hospital. On Tuesday (14), the SSP confirmed the death of one of them. The health status of the other victim was not reported.
According to the police report, the officer stated that he acted in self-defense and said that he did not know that the action was a joke. Upon realizing his mistake, he provided first aid and called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU).
The case is still being investigated by the 42nd Police District (Parque São Lucas).

"Two men, aged 36 and 21, were shot by a 31-year-old civil police officer on Monday afternoon (13), on Avenida Sapopemba, in the east of the capital. According to the police report, the off-duty officer was in a vehicle dealership and was surprised by an announcement of a robbery. The officer intervened. After the incident, the wounded men stated that it was a joke, as they were known to the store employees. Both were taken to Vila Alpina Hospital, where the older man, who was driving the motorcycle, died. The case was registered as bodily injury resulting from police intervention and self-defense at the 42nd DP (Parque São Lucas). The PC's Internal Affairs Department is monitoring the case."
