A man named Hasim Lumbessy was found dead after being swallowed by a 7-meter python in the forest of the Sula Islands Regency, North Maluku. The victim's body was already inside the snake's stomach when residents discovered it.
"The victim was attacked by a 7-meter python and swallowed until he died," said Sula Islands Police Chief, AKBP Handres, as reported by detikSulsel, Wednesday (July 29, 2026).
The incident began when the victim was traveling from Kobo Village to Waisakai Village, Mangoli Utara Timur District, on Monday afternoon (July 27). While traveling through the forest, the victim was swallowed by the python.
However, the incident initially went unnoticed. Suspicions only arose when three residents found the victim's belongings lying on the road at 4:00 p.m. WIT.
Handres said that during the search for the victim, residents saw snake tracks. They then followed the trail left by the reptile until they finally encountered the snake that had swallowed Hasim Lumbessy.
Residents then killed the 7-meter python. When the snake's stomach was cut open, the victim's body was found inside.
"They followed the trail until they found the snake. The residents then killed the snake to remove the victim's body from its stomach," explained Handres.
