A man killed his wife and son in the rural area of Itacarambi early Friday morning (14). He subsequently committed suicide. This information comes from the Military Police.
According to the police, the crime took place in the Capim Vermelho community; the victims—aged 58 and 34—were asleep when they were killed by blows from a piece of wood and stabbings.
The Military Police reported responding to the scene after receiving information that neighbors had heard screams and other noises coming from the family's home.
When the team arrived around 3:00 a.m., they found the couple's wife and son dead, each in their own bedroom.
Emergency medical services (SAMU) were called and confirmed the deaths of all three individuals; the man suspected of the murders was also found at the property.
According to SAMU, an eight-year-old child was also in the home at the time of the crime but managed to escape and take shelter at a neighbor's house. The boy was unharmed. Child Protective Services were called to provide assistance.
Preliminary findings by the Military Police indicate that the 57-year-old man suspected of committing the murders suffered from mental health issues.
Civil Police forensics teams were called to the scene.
